island of hope

stormy despair;
raging, icy waters
sinking ship,
desperate cries.
"Row out!"
the captain gives in
to the malicious wind
crew members jump
into rickety wooden boats
and row, row,
trying to escape
the sharp clutches
of pounding rain,
mercilessly beating
blue lightning
and the heavy clap
of angry thunder.

"Be that an island?"
a sailor shouts over the storm
his fellow mates turn in eagerness
"Yes, that be it!"
they turn, and row, and row.

an island of hope,
an oasis of love.
saving them from the storm.
the guardian angel, high above,
blesses them all.
and sends them to
a fruitful land,
now discovered.

passing storms

Original Poem

Passing storm
  rush of wind
    cry of thunder
      slash of lightning.

Pounding silver rain
  mercilessly striking away
    slapping windows, shaking trees,
      fury menaces, growls of utter anger;

Angel.

Soothing, gentle presence
  Delicate caress of the sky
    stroking pounded earth
      calming the wild storm.

She leaves a gift for us all;

Seven majestic colors

Arching 'cross the cleared sky.

Bringing hope, rewards, and promise.
